It is essential for these entities to be notified to ensure transparency and accountability in such cases.
Trend of Inmate Deaths at the Prison
This latest death marks the fifth detainee fatality at the prison in the year 2024. A notable case was that of Charizma Jones, a 23-year-old inmate at the Rose M. Singer Center, who passed away on July 14 at the NewYork-Presbyterian Burn Center in Manhattan. Her death was possibly related to infectious diseases acquired during her time in prison.
In recent years, there has been a concerning trend in inmate deaths at the facility, with nine reported in 2023, 19 in 2022, and 16 in 2021. These numbers highlight the need for improved protocols and healthcare services within the prison system to prevent further tragedies.
