Rapist Convicted of Murder Sentenced to 34 Years to Life in Prison
A Bronx rapist who used a food delivery app in a failed attempt to seek help has been sentenced to 34 years to life in prison after being convicted of murder. Kemoy Royal, 34, was charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual assault in connection with a series of attacks in 2022.
Series of Horrific Attacks
Prosecutors revealed that Royal raped two women at his Eastchester home over a six-day period in June. He lured the victims to his apartment under false pretenses and subjected them to brutal sexual assaults. In one instance, he forced a woman to perform sex acts against her will, and in another, he strangled a victim and threatened her with a knife.
On June 18, Royal attempted to meet another woman he had connected with on a dating app. This time, the victim was able to escape his clutches by using a clever tactic that ultimately led to his arrest.
Quick-Thinking Victim’s Escape
After being held captive by Royal, the woman devised a plan to order food through a delivery app and included a note asking the restaurant to call the police. Despite some misspellings in her message, the restaurant staff picked up on the distress signal and alerted authorities.
Law enforcement officers swiftly arrived at Royal’s apartment, rescued the woman, and apprehended the suspect. The victim’s resourcefulness played a crucial role in bringing the perpetrator to justice.
Justice Served
Bronx Supreme Court Judge Jeffrey Zimmerman presided over Royal’s sentencing, where he was found guilty of rape, attempted criminal sexual conduct, and predatory sexual assault. The jury’s decision to convict Royal on these charges ensures that he will be held accountable for his heinous actions.
District Attorney Darcel D. Clark commended the brave victim for her quick thinking, stating that it helped prevent Royal from inflicting further harm on others. The outcome of this case sends a strong message that perpetrators of sexual violence will face severe consequences for their crimes.
As Royal begins his lengthy prison sentence, he will also be required to register as a sex offender under the law, ensuring that the community remains protected from potential future threats.
Overall, the successful prosecution of Royal serves as a testament to the resilience and courage of survivors of sexual assault, and highlights the importance of swift and decisive action in holding offenders accountable.
