Man Arrested for Bomb Scare Outside NYPD Station in East Harlem
A man has been arrested and criminally charged after sparking a bomb scare outside an NYPD station in East Harlem. Chontrell Wrenick, 50, faces charges of weapons possession, reckless endangerment, and assault in connection with the incident.
Discovery of Explosive Device
Police found an explosive device in Wrenick’s car, described as a tube affixed to two aerosol cans, which could cause injury or death if detonated. The bomb was discovered after Wrenick allegedly slashed his cousin with a machete during an argument inside the vehicle. The injured cousin then drove Wrenick to the 25th Precinct station and reported the assault to police.
Police Response and Investigation
Upon taking Wrenick into custody, police were informed of the presence of a bomb in his car. The NYPD Emergency Services Team and Bomb Squad were called in to handle the situation. The street was cordoned off as a member of the bomb squad, wearing protective gear, safely removed the device for disposal. A search warrant was subsequently obtained for Wrenick’s home to check for any additional explosives.
