Donald Trump’s Re-Election Campaign Raises $3 Million in Cryptocurrency Donations
Led by donations from prominent figures in the cryptocurrency industry, including the Winklevoss twins and Kraken co-founders, former President Trump’s re-election campaign raised $3 million in digital asset donations in the second quarter of 2024. This marks a significant shift from Trump’s previous characterization of Bitcoin as a “fraud.”
The fundraiser comes as Donald Trump prepares to seek the White House again, with the Trump 47 Committee reporting substantial contributions from key players in the crypto space.
Major Donors Include Winklevoss Twins and Kraken Co-Founders
At the forefront of the donor list are Cameron Winklevoss and Tyler Winklevoss, founders of Gemini exchange, who pledged to donate $2 million in Bitcoin. Jesse Powell, co-founder of Kraken, also contributed $1 million in Ethereum. However, FEC guidelines require donations exceeding $844,600 to be partially refunded, impacting the total contribution amounts.
Other notable donors, such as former Messari CEO Ryan Selkis and Ripple’s Chief Legal Officer Stuart Alderoy, also made significant contributions, reflecting their support for the Trump campaign.
Harris Raises $100 Million in 24 Hours Following Biden Announcement
As President Joe Biden announced he would not seek re-election and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the presumptive Democratic nominee, Harris’ campaign received a substantial $100 million in donations within just 24 hours.
With the 2024 election cycle gaining momentum, the impact of cryptocurrency donations on political campaigns is becoming increasingly evident. Notably, PACs funded by industry leaders like Coinbase and Ripple have been instrumental in supporting candidates aligned with the crypto community.
As Trump’s campaign gains traction and Harris emerges as a strong contender, the intersection of digital assets and politics continues to evolve, underscoring the growing influence of finance and technology in shaping the political landscape.
