Federal Safety Regulators Issue Urgent Warning on Infant Loungers and Bassinet Swings
Federal safety regulators have issued a urgent warning to parents and caregivers regarding the use of certain infant loungers and bassinet swings. This warning comes after a series of tragic deaths of infants due to suffocation and other hazards associated with these products.
Infant Loungers Linked to Multiple Deaths
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has identified five deaths of infants associated with the use of Mamibaby, Yoocaa, and DHZJM brand recliners. These deaths were a result of defects in the products, including sides that were too low and sleeping pads that were too thick, posing a significant suffocation risk.
In one case, a 10-day-old infant and a 5-month-old infant died while using Mamibaby brand recliners that shared beds in 2020 and 2021. Two other infant deaths have been linked to Yoocaa baby loungers, with one tragic incident occurring in 2021 where a 3-month-old baby was found trapped between the bed and bedroom wall while sleeping in the product covered with a blanket. Additionally, in 2020, a fifth baby died in a DHZJM brand baby recliner.
Manufacturer Refusal to Recall Products
Despite the safety concerns raised by the CPSC, the manufacturer of these infant loungers, Ningbo Shuchao Children’s Products Co., has not agreed to recall the products. The affected brands and their estimated sale periods and prices include:
- Mamibaby brand infant lounger: Sold online at Walmart.com from March 2023 to December 2023, priced at approximately $43
- Mamibaby and Cozy Nation brand infant loungers: Sold online at Amazon.com from June 2023 to June 2024, priced between $31 and $50
- Yoocaa brand infant loungers: Sold online at Amazon.com from January 2021 to June 2023, priced between $20 and $87

Warning Issued for Bassinet Swings
In addition to the infant loungers, the CPSC has also issued a warning for the DNYSYSJ and OUKANING bassinet swings, citing a choking and fall hazard for infants. This warning follows the tragic death of a three-month-old baby in 2021 on a similarly designed bassinet swing.
Parents and caregivers are urged not to use the DNYSYSJ cradle swing, available online at Amazon.com from October 2021 to May 2024, priced between $95 and $130, and the OUKANING cradle swing, available online at Amazon.com from October 2021 to February 2023, priced between $80 and $145.
