The fatal crash on the Bruckner Expressway
Armando Rodriguez parked his car on the right shoulder of the northbound lane of the highway near Exit 8 at Pelham Parkway around 5:15 a.m. that fateful day. Unfortunately, as he was inspecting the passenger side of his vehicle, Ramirez Payano’s speeding car struck him, resulting in Rodriguez’s untimely death at the scene.
Police investigation and apprehension of the suspect
Following the hit-and-run incident, police retrieved video footage from Rodriguez’s dashcam, which captured the unique tailpipe of Ramirez Payano’s vehicle. Using this crucial evidence, officers were able to track down the suspect’s car before and after the crash.
Ultimately, Ramirez Payano’s car was discovered on Waring Avenue near Lodovic Avenue in Pelham Gardens, with significant damage characteristic of the collision. Subsequently, a nearby woman informed police that her niece and boyfriend were in the car at the time of the accident, indicating that the couple had been drinking.
After an arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court, Ramirez Payano was released on $20,000 cash bail or $75,000 bond as the investigation into the incident continued.
Overall, this tragic hit-and-run incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of irresponsible driving and the importance of accountability on the road.
