Investigation into the Shooting at Trump Campaign Rally
On one occasion, former President Donald Trump was speaking at a campaign rally when a man from Butler, Pennsylvania, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, opened fire. Crooks, hailing from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was eventually shot by a Secret Service sniper at the rally.
FBI’s Statement and Investigation Progress
The FBI confirmed Crooks’ involvement in the assassination attempt on former President Trump. The investigation is ongoing, and the FBI is urging anyone with information to come forward. FBI Pittsburgh Special Agent in Charge, Kevin Rojack, mentioned in a news conference that they are yet to determine a motive for the attack. To establish the shooter’s identity, federal investigators had to analyze the shooter’s DNA as he was not carrying any identification.
Details of the Shooting Incident
During the rally, one spectator lost their life, and two others were seriously injured by the shooter. Witnesses recounted seeing the gunman, armed with an AR-style rifle, positioned on the roof of a shed about 200 to 300 feet away from the stage. Despite attempts by rally attendees to alert authorities, the shooter managed to start firing before being taken down by the Secret Service.
