Flights Still Canceled Days After Microsoft Outage
Delta Airlines Faces Massive Disruption
Delta Airlines canceled flights for the third consecutive day on Monday due to a global software outage linked to Microsoft’s systems. This outage has also affected other sectors, including shipping, logistics, retail, and banking.
Delta Air Lines CEO Addresses the Issue
CEO Ed Bastian of Delta Air Lines issued an open letter on Sunday explaining that the airline had to suspend flights after a power outage on Friday. This led to the cancellation of 3,500 flights over the weekend during the airline’s peak summer travel period.
Efforts to Restore Operations
While most other airlines have recovered from software outages, Delta Air Lines continues to face challenges, with an additional 1,120 flights canceled or delayed on Monday. Bastian mentioned that many Delta applications run on Microsoft Windows, exacerbating the impact of the software issue.
Delta is working tirelessly to restore full functionality and is offering travel exemptions to affected passengers. The airline encourages passengers to take advantage of the flexibility provided for rebooking flights.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg criticized Delta’s handling of the situation, emphasizing the need for prompt refunds, free rebooking, and reimbursement for affected customers.
