Background of the Recall
Perdue Foods is recalling more than 167,000 pounds of frozen chicken nuggets and tenders following customer reports of finding wires embedded in the products. The recall includes select lots of three products: Perdue Breaded Chicken Breasts, Butcher Box Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets, and Perdue Simply Smart Organics Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets, as confirmed by Perdue and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. After receiving customer complaints, FSIS and Perdue determined that around 167,171 pounds of product may have been contaminated by foreign matter.

According to Perdue, the material was found in a limited amount of consumer packaging. Jeff Shaw, Perdue’s senior vice president of food safety and quality, stated that the material was a very fine wire inadvertently introduced into the manufacturing process.
